The Renault F1 Team has not had much luck with the Canadian Grand Prix and this extends to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, where the team has never succeeded. Since 1978, the company has recorded four wins, twelve podiums and six pole positions. Montreal is also the only circuit where a Renault has competed in the Grand Prix of Canada, although in the year 1977, the event took place at Mosport, where Jean-Pierre Jabouille, unfortunately failed to qualify the RS01 which would have been his fifth Grand Prix.
Renault and the Canadian Grand Prix
Renault turbo power raced in Montreal from 1978 to 1986, but was only in 1985 that the race car manufacturer French was able to get a pole position at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. And this in a style with a Lotus-Renault front row for Elio de Angelis on pole and Ayrton Senna at his side. Despite of what the team's career has yet been shown to be a disappointment for the team with De Angelis managing only P5 compared to Ferrari, who had one and two.
Throughout the career of the Renault Turbo the best result that has been achieved P2 finish by Eddie Cheever in 1983, was also the time teammate Alain Prost was fighting for the championship of the world in which only manage a P5. After the bad luck of being in the Grand-Prix, Renault have two retired while running second and third having qualified in the same position.
Then came the era of the V10, which has changed everything for the Renault its first victory arrived in Montreal, heading a Williams-Renault, one-two with Belgian Thierry Boutsen leading home Riccardo Patrese in 1989. Another victory for Renault, the manufacturer of href = "http://www.oxygensensorwholesale.com/renault.html"> Renault, oxygen sensor was obtained by Nigel Mansell in 1991 until he retired on the final lap, fortunately, Alain Prost in 1993 set the record straight with the 45th victory for a Renault engine.
Then in 1995, a front line saw Benetton Renault of Michael Schumacher's pole position 100th Renault ahead of Damon Hill. The following year, a first line of Renault ahead of Hill and Villeneuve became a Renault one-two-three with Hill, Villeneuve and Alesi on the podium.
Unfortunately for the year 2002 it seems that the bad fortune of the team has come back despite the fact that Renault cars have performed well start-stop at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Fernando Alonso set the fastest lap in 2003, but unfortunately ended a location away from the rostrum.
2004 was, the cars looked strong and ready, but it seems that bad luck is on the side of the new equipment that both cars retired with driveshaft failure. Then, the year following, 2005, Giancarlo Fisichella and Fernando Alonso has decided to retire while still leading the race and it was not until 2006 that Fernando Alonso was A Renault to victory is that after the team's cars blocked the first row. It was the 32nd victory of the Renault chassis and the 122nd win for the Renault engine in Formula 1.
